“It’s very simple”. But you have to follow certain rules.
I am providing here some of the suggestions from my side which you can follow if you find it worthful. As you have not mention your current year so i am assuming that you are a fresher. By assuming it i i will answer which will cover a wide range of students. Ok, So here are some tips:
- Academic Skills: Meaning of Academic skills is basically related with Theoretical core knowledge. It is one of the most important skill which each & every ECE Graduates should posses. Its my view that if you are doing any thing particularly for a specific branch than you must know the basicsof it.
- To make the core skills better i will suggest you to read standard books. One of the best book to make the basics strong in electronics is boylestad. It is the must read book for ECE graduates. Along with it for each core subject try to read the standard book. It will make your concept More stronger.
- This is how Boylestad Cover page looks.
- NPTEL Videos: One of the best resources which you can utilize from You tube free of cost. Believe me there is a subject in 6th semester of ECE called Integrated Circuit Technology( A part of VLSI). I study this subject only from You tube. Prof. Nandita das from IIT-Madras have given that lecturers, Which are too good. So you can follow NPTEL lectures from internet according to your own time.
- Online materials: You can download the subject material from Internet. You can Easily find the study material of ACE & few other coaching institutes on Internet. If you are preparing for further studies in technical field, Than these books will surely helpful for you. Along with it try to solve the question from R S KANODIA book. This book is too good.
- Free Mock Test: You can register on the website of different coaching (GATE) institutes and can avail the option of free mock test. The quality of tests are quite good. It will also be beneficial for you.
- So, it was all about the Academics part. Now lets move the practical parts:
- Practical Skills: “The higher you will try the more will you learn”. Simple. As you are an ECE Student , So i assume that you will be aware about the no of Software/Languages it have. If you are not than you can read my answer on this question:
- Satyam Singh's answer to What are the best software course for electronics and communication?
- If you have interest in only specific areas than try to be master in that area. It will help you in your interview. Try to learn things from youtube, Google & Don’t feel hesitate to take a guidance from your teacher.
- “Always keep one thing in mind whatever you learn try to make a project on it by yourself, it will tell you that how much you have learn & more importantly you will add something extraa in your resume.”
- Miscellaneous Skills: This is consider as extraa Curricular Activity. Don’t be only branch concentric. Try to explore things from other fields too. Try to be all rounder. I am giving points here as a part of extraa Curricular activities which you can do:
- Watch TED Talks in your free time. Its good. Seriously.
- Use social media but that social media from where you can learn something & can contribute something which can help people.
- Some of the online sites which you can use for learning as i do:
- Stack Overflow
- W3 schools
- quora
- Instructables
- Electronics for you
- Mashable
- you tube
- Hackerrank
- IEEE
etc.
- You can use facebook to join some best groups. So that you can learn from there.
- Now i will divide the skills development according to year.
- 1st Year: Only try to learn the basics of all the subjects very will. Try to make your CGPA above that 9. It will help you in your 3rd year when you will apply for Internship in IITs or foreign internship. They consider your grades as the first priority. In summer vacations of 1st year try to learn some Course from your stream and try to expose your hobbies.
- 2nd year: Try to learn technical skills as much as you can learn but not the cost of study. Try to win some Hackathons organized in top colleges. Fill out some scholarship forms which award scholarships on your marks or conduct tests. Try to make some project what you learn & in summer vacations apply for an Internship.
- 3rd Year: Make some more high level projects. This year is all about as much as you can learn. Expand all your hobbies. learn whatever you want. And also take care of grades. Than in 6th semester start to prepare for CAT, GATE, GRE if you want. It is the best time for it. In summers don’t forget to take a good internship.
- 4th year: Only pay attentions on your preparations. Don’t do anything extraa. You already have did extraa in last 3 year. If you want to do jobthan try to add some more stars on your resume. Prepare best for interview.
- So this is how you can improve your skills and can do good in your Graduations.
