How do I prepare for the GATE (ECE) to get into the top 10 ranks?

“There is no Substitute of Hard work, So Hard work is the key which will finally help you to achieve Top rank but i can Provide you some of the Guidelines which Usually i Follow for my Preparation”.
Disclaimer: As I am from ECE branch so i will mostly share the examples or books which will belongs to ECE branch but the same can be applied to all the Branches Except Books with few Changes.
So lets dive in-
  • Standard Books: So first of all the most Important thing which every gate aspirant must do is to follow Standard Books. I have seen that lots of students don’t even courage to study Standard Books because they think that they can’t understand the book Language. As most of the Standard Books are written by Foreign writers so they think so. But its very Essential to study with these Books. It will give you the clear picture of Concepts. And as soon as you start to read standard books regularly it will no more be a herculean task for you. Remember one thing that your basic Concepts must be clearbecause only you can solve the question if you are very strong with your basics.
    • For ECE Students i will say that first Try to Cover “Robert L. Boylestad” Book if you have not studied it in your First year. It is too good book to cover all the basics. Along with it you can follow the standard Books for Different Subjects.
  • Make Your own Handwritten Notes: Usually you can find the various links on Internet from where you can download the Handwritten Notes of Famous coaching Institutes. But personally i will suggest you to not do it. That’s why i am not sharing those links. I will say Instead of it try to create your own handwritten Notes. Usually downloaded notes may contains some Errorsand you never know which question can be asked in this Prestigious Examination. So try to make your own Notes. Write each & Every Concept which you study in that Notes. So you will not miss any concept.
  • Mock Tests: In order to check how much you have been progressed, Mock tests are very Important. Mock tests play a very Significant role in the preparation of any Exam. I will suggest you to go on the website of different Coaching Institutes their you will find the link of free Mock test. So give these mock tests first. It free of cost and you will know your Progress. So in that way you can give around 10–15 Full length Free mock test on different websites but i will recommend you to give full length mock test when you have completed all your subjects. Along with it their are some apps on Play store which you can download for some Practice question. I will suggest solve any question from anywhere you got. Finally it will help you to achieve your Goal.
  • NPTEL Videos: NPTEL Videos are one of the best Resource available on the Internet. Its free of cost. on NPTEL you can find the lectures on different topic in Video form which are given by top Professors of different IITs. These videos are really good to clear the concept. If you have a trade off time than watch the videos only on those topics which you find hard to understand.
  • Competitive Books: You must use some Competitive Books for numerical Practice. There are lots of books available in the Market but i will suggest you to before buy any book make sure that which book have quality numericals rather than buy that book which only Contains number of numericals which are easy. It will only do Waste of time. For ECE Students i will suggest to buy R S KANODIA Book. Its very good book for numerical Practice.
  • Test Series: In November or December you can join the Test series of any Coaching Institutes. They will charge some money for it. But it will give you an Idea of your Rank and your marks.
  • Discipline: It is must above the all. If you are quite Discipline for your studies and follow regular time table than surely you will be have some fly colours on the Result day.
  • Online Resources: You can use some online Resources too for your Preparation but i will suggest to do it only if you have a enough time for Preparation. You can use NPTEL Test Course, Coursera, edx and different youtube channels to understand the subject a little more. But again for it you must have enough Time.
So, These are some of the points which any Gate aspirant must keep in his Mind while Preparing for Exam. One need to work hard and follow these tips. You will surely get the fruit of your hard work. And finally after reading this long answer this one is for you…

“Difference & similarities both are up to the individual that at what extent he want to learn.” I will start here with similarities. See either it’s ECE or CSE both are Considered as one of the best Branches and elected by mostly Top Rankers. Now lets dive and find that what is similar in these two branches- Programming:  It is something that is Common between both the branches. While one might argue that CSE is totally related with programming while ECE is not. So as i said earlier that it is upto the student that how much he want to learn.
